The Unique History of HP Inkjet Printers

The history of HP inkjet printers is quite a rich one to say the least. HP is currently and has been for quite a long time an innovator in the field of new technology relating to home and business needs and continues to lead the pack. This is why it doesn’t come as much surprise to anyone that HP inks are currently the most popular in the world. Below you will find some great information on how HP inkjet printers became what we know and love today.

In Development Since 1970!

The fact of the matter is that although inkjet technology only became mainstream a relatively short time ago, HP has been developing their inkjet technology for decades. In fact, it was all the way back in 1970 when they started their search to find alternatives to older technologies that were common place for printers at the time such as dot matrix printing.

Finding a suitable and more efficient alternative was one of the main goals of the research and development department at HP and this would eventually lead them to develop what is widely available in modern inkjet cartridges.

HP Releases The ThinkJet

All of this time and money spent on research and development for a viable alternative to older printing technologies would eventually lead HP to release the ThinkJet in 1984 which is the first mass produced and affordable printer that utilises inkjet technology and allows for a disposable printer cartridge that is used for monochrome printing needs. Hp would spend the years following the successful release of the first HP inkjet printer, the ThinkJet, further developing the technology and ensuring they would stay ahead of the competition.

From Dye To Inkjet

The early yet successful attempts at inkjet printers would see HP utilising dye based inks. This would later be replaced in later models of HP printers that utilised inkjet technology with pigmented ink that allowed for outdoor signage and other things that were not possible with past implementations of inkjet technology.

Constant Innovation Rewarded

Over the long history of HP in the world of mainstream printing products, they have been able to continue staying ahead of the competition and further improve the technology that is used in their many successful inkjet printers. This is the reason that HP is currently one of the world’s leaders in inkjet technology and continues to be the preferred choice of many people.
